Maia & Leigh in the Garden

To Do List

Ladies,
Below is a list of various jobs that need to be done in the garden. As you complete each task, be sure to indicate next to it that it is completed so that we are all aware of what has been done and what needs to be done.

TO DO:
  • Weed the area behind the asparagus: plant perennials that are currently living under the bench there, mulch with the bagged mulch, and in any remaining space, plant zinnia seeds.
  • Weed, turnover, and compost last bed, located between the lettuce bed and the 1st perennial bed. Plant seeds there. Options: carrots, beets, whatever anyone wants to put in.
  • Weed bed closest to water: put up stakes in a round structure and plant pole beans around the stakes. Mulch with the marsh hay.
  • Mulch cucumber bed with marsh hay
  • Pick and eat lettuce and arugula!

The Garden

I finally met Ramon (picture of him included in this post), the Puerto Rican man who has lived in the states since 1957 and provided so much advice on gardening.

Em & Yo at the Garden June 13

Emily and I spent a couple of hours at the garden building a structure for the cucumbers that we're hoping to have this summer. Amanda, Maia, Brandi and Emily, I am amazed at the beauty of your gardening skills. Hope you enjoy the pictures.

Emily and I did some gardening today!!  Some more veggies in. . . some more perennials.  It is all starting to come together - and we try not to look at our over-achiever neighbors  : )

Good work Amanda on the mulch, hay, and burlap.  Lettuce harvest this week!!!

Hey Gals,
Sunk in two boxwoods in new open space at end of garden. They will need some TLC (i.e. watering) over this first week if there is no rain so feel free to give them a drink if you are at the garden.  They are easy to move if y'all don't like them there (or, don't like them at all).  I think they add a little something and we can fill inbetween with some wildflowers/perennials, etc.

Everything you guys did over the weekend looks GREAT!!  Em and I talked about doing some work on Sunday morning.  Should be good for putting in some veggies : )

The Work has begun

Brandi, Amanda and Brandi have put in some sweat at the garden over the past couple of days and have started tilling the beds, planting a few things and scoping out where everything will be planted.

Good work chicas. I plan on taking pictures this weekend and posting to the blog.

Garden Planning

Earlier this evening, Brandi and Emily spent time at Country Galz Acre checking out the layout of the land (brave women they are as it was raining while they did their walk through). They came to our place and spent time planning what the garden will look like this summer. Check out the pictures of their brainstorming session.
